The Strategic Public Sector Leadership Workshop for Yen Bai, conducted by the Vietnam Australia Centre (VAC) at the request of the Yen Bai Provincial Party Committee through Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics (HCMA), took place from 28 to 31 March 2024.
The workshop equipped 50 emerging, female and ethnic minority officials from Yen Bai province with knowledge and enhanced leadership skills, extending the successful training model provided to HCMA officials.
Focusing on capacity building and sharing leadership experiences from various countries, the workshop helped Yen Bai officials improve knowledge and skills, and leadership methods that are relevant to their professional fields.
Participants explored and evaluated a variety of leadership styles and approaches and how to apply in the operational context of the public sector in Vietnam. They also gained an understanding of leadership transformation at the intersection of technology, strategy, and people.
Participants engaged in several group discussions and activities during the workshop.
During the workshop, a panel discussion with Vietnamese and Australian experts provided insights into current and emerging public policy, governance issues and leadership development in both countries.
The workshop was part of a refresher course on leadership and management for officials who are participating in Project No. 11, initiated by Yen Bai Provincial Party Committee since 2018 to include more young people, women, and people from ethnic minority groups in its workforce.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ms Cherie Russell, Acting Deputy Ambassador, Australian Embassy in Vietnam said, “It is heartening to note that 50% of the participants in this course are female, considering that this is a course for emerging leaders. This aligns well with Australia’s efforts in developing a new international gender equality strategy. We remain committed to supporting specific gender equality initiatives and ensuring that all development programs in Vietnam contribute to gender equality.”
Mr Ta Van Long, Permanent Vice Secretary of Yen Bai Provincial Party Committee said, “Yen Bai is proactively developing quality human resources. The workshop delivers practical training and international experience for our officials, who will share this crucial knowledge with colleagues and peers to improve the public sector in our province.”
