In his speech at the event, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thang emphasized that the establishment of VAC aims to carry out the Joint Statement of the Prime Ministers of the two countries in September 2019, and is an important highlight in the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Australia, as well as a practical activity towards the 50th founding anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries.
“The centre will play a crucial role in allowing Việt Nam access to Australia’s knowledge, skills, and experience in education and training for scientific research, while also improving the understanding and positive partnership between the two countries,” Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thang.

The opening of this portal is a necessary initial step for the development of the centre, which is hoped to contribute to improving the capacity of Vietnamese officials and managers to meet the requirements of integration and development of the country, and to strengthening up the sustainable Vietnam-Australia cooperation.
Australia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Penny Wong made her speech at the launching ceremony
Australia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Penny Wong, who is on an official visit to Vietnam from June 26-28, said that establishing the Việt Nam – Australia Centre would help both countries benefit from the cooperative partnership. It will contribute to enhancing the knowledge of Việt Nam’s future generation of leaders, promoting collaboration and strengthening connections between the Australian and Vietnamese people.
Minister Penny Wong said: “We want to understand Việt Nam’s perspectives on the opportunities and challenges we face and how we can meet them together. We understand the importance of concrete actions, not just words, to sustain and grow our shared prosperity, particularly at this challenging time”. She believed that the VAC will help both our countries realise the benefits of our cooperation and partnership. This is a genuine partnership that is grounded in trust.

They agreed that key contents of the bilateral strategic partnership between Vietnam and Australia has been implemented effectively despite the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thang spotlighted the significance of cooperation programmes and projects between the two sides for Vietnam, particularly a project to incorporate human rights into the curriculum of the national education system. He also proposed expanding cooperation in a number of potential areas, including innovation, green energy, digital transformation, and climate change adaptation./.
